Keys to the Future | Supporting Youth Aging Out of Foster Care

Keys to the Future

Supporting young adults aging out of foster care by providing safe housing, guidance, and supportive services that promote stability and long-term well-being.

Project Information

Unlocking independence for local young adults.

Keys to the Future: Unlocking Independence is creating supportive transitional housing for young adults aging out of foster care and individuals with functional disabilities in Cecil County.

$3 Million Goal

Creating safe housing and long-term support services for vulnerable youth in our community.

$225K Raised

CASA has already raised more than $225,000 and secured land for the project.

$200K Needed

Our immediate goal is to raise $200,000 by July 1, 2026 to move into planning and development.

Every year, approximately 20,000 youth age out of foster care in the United States. Many face homelessness, financial instability, and a lack of support as they enter adulthood. Keys to the Future exists to help change that.
Why Housing Matters

Safe housing creates the foundation for independence.

A safe place to sleep, keep belongings, cook a meal, study, rest, and feel secure gives young people the space to plan for the future. Without housing, every other goal becomes harder.

The Risk of Homelessness

Research shows that nearly 1 in 5 youth aging out of foster care will experience homelessness shortly after leaving the system, highlighting how critical stable housing truly is.

Stability Creates Opportunity

When youth know where they will sleep each night, they can focus on school, work, appointments, and long-term goals.

Safety Supports Healing

Stable housing can reduce crisis, fear, and stress, helping young people recover from trauma and build confidence.

Support Builds Independence

Young people need more than a key. They need caring adults, life skills, resources, and encouragement as they learn to live independently.
